Prybylski, a Buffalo native, has been on the music scene for years, first picking up the saxophone in the third grade. He is one of Western New York’s finest jazz instrumentalists as well as being a seven-time winner of the Buffalo Music Awards top saxophonist award. His first solo venture, Soho Strut, garnered him critical acclaim.
Window Shopping opens with "Night Flyer," where Prybylski highlights his talent on the alto sax. This track features Navarro on electric guitar and instantly you know that you're in for something special with this CD. Navarro's acoustic guitar shines on "Bright Spot," which beautifully compliments Prybylski’s fluid tenor sax. It doesn’t take long to realize why Prybylski has been awarded top honors for his sax work so many times!
The title track "Window Shopping" showcases Prybylski’s impressive talent on (and passion for) the soprano, alto and tenor saxophones. Jay Rowe accompanying on the keyboards creates very smooth and relaxing, but at the same time uplifting tones. Think of a nice crisp day strolling down your favorite street, people watching and perhaps doing a little window shopping along the way. According to Prybylski, this is what gave him the inspiration for the title of this CD.
"3 Cats" pairs Prybylski on alto sax with Navarro on electric guitar for mellow sounds, but with enough kick to keep the mood high. Changing the atmosphere and turning up the heat is the excellent Latin infused "Santa Faustina." Prybylski’s sound is rich, exotic and sultry on this one. Switching moods, "I Need You" slows it down with some soft, romantic tones and again showcases Prybylski’s talent on the tenor sax. Next, get ready to be wowed with some funk on "I Wish," a fantastic Stevie Wonder cover. There is no compromising of this great tune here as Prybylski brilliantly makes it his own. The horns on this track are superb. For a little romance, J.J. Moscato lends his smooth vocals to "Don’t Say No," a lovely ballad, and paired with Prybylski’s soprano sax this one will soothe your soul. Lastly, for a beautiful finish to Window Shopping is "Space Lion," a song from the Japanese anime series Cowboy Bebop. Prybylski’s tenor sax is haunting and deep, lending itself so well against the African vocal samples here.
Window Shopping is one of those must have CDs. It’s jam packed full of talent with its highlight being some of the hottest, most sophisticated sax playing around today. Don’t pass this one by the next time you’re out window shopping.
