All compositions in this enjoyable CD are by Maria Schneider. It is her orchestra and music, and together they make for a winning jazz sound. The songs are long, lovingly performed, and energetic in scope. There are four songs. The songs include "The 'Pretty' Road," "Aires de Lando," "Rich's Piece," "Cerulean Skies," and "Sky Blue."
"Cerulean Skies" has a running time of 21:55, and it is worth every second of your listening time. There is so much going on in this haunting work, it is hard to define. This is a great song, and something the jazz listening audience will return to savor often. Sky Blue also offers some fine jazz suprises. Each song is a gem unto itself, special, and entertaining.
There are many, many gifted artists performing on this fine CD. Luciana Souza is the voice on "The 'Pretty' Road" and "Cerulean Skies." Gary Versace gives his accordion performances, each one outstanding and unique. Rich Perry gives intimate sounds with his flute and tenor saxophone. The list goes on with these topnotch musicians. The musical setting is superb.
The jazz listening audience should find many beautiful things about this CD collection. The Maria Schneider Orchestra and her music are enjoyable from start to finish. A fine collection!
