The music is Cuban and Latin based, with the Asere group playing various traditional and modern instruments like the lightly chorused nylon string guitar, bongos, trumpet, and the swinging fretless electric bass. The modern instrumentations make the traditional Latin and Cuban music, sound updated and fresh. The clave sections are where Cobham digs in, but he tastefully keeps things in context. There are also vocal spots and vocal chanting. In addition to operating the drum kit (11 - piece plus 6 cymbals), Cobham plays the bongos on a track. The music is a return to roots for Cobham. He was 3 years old when he left Panama, and now he rediscovers the place he left long ago - an inspiration for this new project: "De Cuba y De Panama".
Cobham the original and quintessential fusion drummer, continues to be a trend setter. One of the central roles of a musician is to spread music and share the beauty of music. Here Cobham is a great, ambassador and fits the role very well.
