Oscar Peterson is renowned as one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time. The trio, consisting of Peterson and long-time band mates Ray Brown on bass and Ed Thigpen on drums were one of the most popular jazz trios ever and toured the world.
This DVD features The Oscar Peterson Trio captured live in three of their peak performances from three Scandinavian venues: Stockholm, Sweden in 1963, The Jazzklub in Holbaek, Denmark in 1964, and The Cultural House in Helsinki, Finland in 1965. The Sweden performance features guest performer Roy Eldridge on trumpet and the Finland performance also showcases a guest performance by Clark Terry on trumpet, flugelhorn, and vocals.
This well-produced video features clean, crisp, black and white footage of the trio performing classics that range from Ellington’s "Satin Doll," to "On Green Dolphin Street," to Peterson’s own "Hymn To Freedom," to "Mack the Knife," and "Misty" displaying the band’s breadth and depth as a trio. Also clearly evident in the footage is the tight-knit group’s easy on-stage comradery.
A must have for collectors and fans of the great Oscar Peterson as well as any piano jazz enthusiasts. The DVD features a 24-page booklet with liner notes by Doug Ramsey, forward by Kelly Peterson, and various rare photographs of Oscar and his mates.
