Nica's Dream done up tempo is a driving version of this jazz chestnut. Stein's guitar solo swings like the Flying Wallendas. Nice ideation and dexterity are the hallmarks of this fine guartist and it is in full display on this track. Sato has an incredible soliloquy in his time at bat. Drummer Nazario is in fine fettle as he drives the band onward and upward.
Moanin' finds Stein opening matters in an intersting manner as he presents this number in a new version, much different from the usual fare one hears.
Beautiful Love is a lovely ballad and this ensemble pays due deference to the melody and the changes are played with care and sensibility.
Wild Woods is done as a waltz and as John Stein takes it into 4/4, it really gives expression to the song.
Falling In Love With Love is jaunty excursion into the land of swing and Stein gets it all with style and grace.
This album says a lot in manner and style. An ensemble of this type is well worth the price of 'admission'. Not only is it pleasing to the ear but the musicians are top notch examples of the best form of jazz that exists today. Or any other day for that matter.
