Smooth jazz vocalist Tony Adamo grooves on this latest session with a mix of originals and favorite songs. “Cold Duck Time,” “Eleanor Rigby,” “The Way You Do the Things You Do “and Grover Washington Jr.’s “ Make Me a Memory” share the program with Adamo originals that carry plenty of swing along with lush harmony. He’s backed by ensembles that provide a keyboard-bass-drums-backup-singer kind of texture where a featured singer can push his message and know that his musical partners won’t miss a beat.
The Jay Vonada Trio, based in State College PA, will release their debut CD Red Pajamas on January 21, 2012. The group consists of Jay Vonada on Trombone, Alex Sell on Organ and Kevin Lowe on the drums. The album will feature nine original compositions, seven by Vonada and one each by Sell and Lowe.
The group is featured monthly at Zola New World Bistro in State College which has hosted musicians such as Dan Yoder, Rich Hirsch, Greg Johnson, Steve Bowman, Arthur Goldstein, Ian Hendrickson-Smith, Ryan Kisor, among many other musicians.
Just in time for Thanksgiving, jazz trumpeter and composer Mark Rapp launched a simple, but effective, web app (http://thankyou.markrapp.com ) to spread the feeling of thanks and gratitude. It features an original composition by Rapp appropriately named “Thank You” which was recorded and released on the trumpeter’s debut CD “Token Tales”(Paved Earth Music, 2009).
