Antonio Carlos Jobim
He is the grand marshal of bossa nova. His music reminds you of a sunny day at the beach and his smooth, baritone voice is romantic. In addition, the melodic piano tunes are breathtaking and relaxing. The background violin sounds make you feel like you're at a symphony. Some of my favorite tunes are Ela E Carioca, Passarim, The Girl From Ipanema and Aguas de Marco, which he sings with Elis Regina. Some of the CDs I recommend are Elis & Tom, Wave, A Arte de Antonio Carlos Jobim and Passarim.

Joao Gilberto
This guitarist is fantastic! He sings vocals on Jobim's The Girl From Ipanema and his light, earthy voice resembles a teenager. His style of playing is sharp and rapid. My favorite songs are Doralice, Desafinado, Vivo Sonhado, Bim-Bom and Meditacao. He and Jobim were early pioneers during the bossa nova era in the 1960s and they forever changed Brazilian music. He also collaborated with jazz legends Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd. I recommend the CDs Getz/Gilberto and The Girl From Ipanema: The Bossa Nova Years.

Elis Regina
She is the bossa nova princess. Her sharp, full-throated voice is wonderful and she is versatile in her style of singing. She can perform a jazz or pop song. My favorites are Aguas de Marco, Chovendo Na Roseira,
