Jazz Showcase out to Sea

Fun, sun and seven nights of Jazz at sea? In honor of Chicago's Joe Segel, owner of the oldest Downtown entertainment club for Jazz, the Jazz Showcase and the BeBop Cafe, various Jazz artists were compiled to celebrate Joe's 75th Birthday Bash aboard the m/s Norwegian Majesty,November 4-11,2001.

Check out this star power roster:James Moody, Freedie Cole quartet; brother of legendary Nate Cole, Chicago's own father and daughter; Oscar Brown,Jr. and Maggie Brown; who also debuted their latest CD: We're Live..., Willie Pickens, Red Holloway, Junior Mance, David Fathead Newman, Benny Green, Larry Gray and Robert Shy, Henery Johnson quartet and Maynard Ferguson's Big Bop Nouveau Band and more.

In 1947 at Roosevelt College the Jazz Showcase originated as a student club. And as Joe stated, "So many of our memorable greats have left us since then that we're sort of dedicating this swinging party to them..."
