FOURTH ANNUAL JAZZ AT THE POINT
SOMERS POINT, DECEMBER 16 --- The fourth annual "Jazz@the Point Festival" will take place Friday, March 22, and Saturday, March 23, in Somers Point (NJ). More than a dozen musicians of local and national celebrity will appear at five area restaurants, clubs and schools. A weekend ticket costs $25 for admission to all venues and shows for the two days. A single evening ticket costs $15 for full admission. A single venue admission is $10. A Saturday afternoon concert is free and open to the public.
The Festival is sponsored by the non-profit Foundation for Education to help support music education for the Somers Point School District. Last year’s Festival raised $5,000.

Friday, March 22
The Tony Day Quartet with vocalist Lolita Treadwell, appearing at Gregory's restaurant, 900 Shore Road, Somers Point from 9:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m. Concord recording star guitarist Jimmy Bruno with the New York-based guitarist Peter Bernstein and L.A. jazz guitar player Tony Do Rosario are at the Pearl Restaurant, located on the Somers Point Circle. Local well known jazz players Bobby Shomo (drums) and Tim Lekan (bass) will join these three great jazz men from 8:00 p.m. until 12 midnight
Saturday, March 23
Free big band concert at 5:00 p.m. will be held at the Jordan Road School, featuring the Jordan Road Middle School Jazz Ensemble, two Mainland Regional High School jazz bands, and a 16 piece band led by Ed Vezhino and Jim Ward featuring a line up of great local musicians. The concert will be preceded by clinics for student musicians run by local professionals and concentrating on brass, reeds, and percussion.
The Dennis Diblasio Quartet with Jim Ridl (piano), Jim Miller (drums) and Steve Varner (bass) appears at the Somers Inn, Sunny and Maryland Avenues, from 8:00 p.m. until midnight. Diblasio was a long-time musical director with Maynard Ferguson and, most recently, is the head of the jazz program at Rowan University. He has recorded with many jazz groups and on his own. Jim Ridl has been featured with many jazz greats, most notably with Pat Martino and Gina Roche and has several of his own CDs.
The Howard Isaacson Sextet returns to Bubba Mac's, 545 Bay Ave., from 9:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m. and will feature tunes from its newly released CD. The sextet was a great hit at last year's festival.
