Looking Back, Stepping Forward

Looking Back, Stepping Forward, is the new CD release by The Ron Kearns Quintet. The CD celebrates five years of the group's existence with Ron Kearns, saxes, Ken Reed, Trumpet/Flugelhorn, Eric Byrd, Piano, Bhagwan Khalsa, Bass and Mike Smith, Drums. On the disc, Ron describes how the history of the DC Jazz scene affected his development and he has one of his inspirations and mentors, Buck Hill, as a guest artist. Buck Hill is a major part of the DC Jazz scene and has influenced many of the jazz players who have come out of Washington, DC. The release of this CD will be celebrated at DC's historical jazz venue, Blues Alley on January 15, 2003.

Washington, DC has a rich jazz history spawning jazz greats such as Duke Ellington, Billy Taylor, Shirley Horn, Charlie Rouse and many others. Artists who visited the nation's capital knew that they could always find quality musicians to field a band. Many of the top traveling musicians in the United States are still based in Washington, DC.
