Serving A Little Coco This Summer Is Hot!

Southern Fried Chicken, Louisiana Blackened Catfish and Sweet Potato Salad are not the only items Londel’s is serving this summer. The Coco Rouzier Quartet is the main course for the Jazz Friday venue, performing their style of "straight ahead jazz" to a hungry crowd of jazz enthusiasts on Friday, July 19th and Saturday, July 20th.

The Coco Rouzier Quartet is a four-member jazz band led by Coco Rouzier on vocals, Tim Baylis on Piano, Yoshi Wakee on Bass and Noel Paris on Drums. The quartet has been performing as a jazz ensemble since 2001 in the New York City area and is now expanding their audience throughout the tri-state region. Described as a classic jazz sound, the band’s groove is full of joyous melodies, inviting listeners to experience their traditional sound put to timeless standards such as Route 66, Blue Moon and At Last. "I look forward to performing these songs to the Harlem audience," comments Rouzier. "Jazz was born in the heart of an African American community similar to Harlem. Ella Fitzgerald was discovered at the famous Apollo Theater and Billie Holiday lived 5 short blocks away from Londel’s! I am excited about my debut performance at Londel’s as we will be able to present our style to an audience that respects and craves jazz."

The quartet will perform two sets at the uptown jazz spot. The first set is scheduled for 8:00 P.M. and the second for 9:30 P.M. Borrowing a style that belonged to Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughn, Rouzier will be singing classic songs such as S’wonderful, Bewitched, The Very Thought of You and Almost Like Being in Love. "I absolutely look forward to seeing Coco Rouzier and her band perform at Londel’s," says Shelly Martin, a fan of the quartet. "Adding a little Coco with my meal always seems to hit the spot," she adds.

The Coco Rouzier Quartet will be performing at various jazz venues throughout New York City this summer. Londel’s Jazz Club is located at 2620 Fredrick Douglas Blvd. (between 139th and 140th Streets). For reservations, call (212) 234-6114.
