In the last two years, pianist and composer Eric Mintel and the Eric Mintel Quartet, have been invited to perform jazz at the White House, seven performances at the Kennedy Center, collaborations with symphony orchestra and choral groups and many performances in concert halls throughout the country. Not bad for a guy who does all his own bookings. "I've been leading my band since 1993. In that time I've been very fortunate, but at the same time it's been a lot of hard work with a lot of sacrifice. My love and commitment to jazz and sharing this music with the listening audience is very, very strong. The greatest feeling in the world is being up on the band stand or concert hall stage playing jazz to a knowledgeable audience who gets what we're doing and playing with the guys in my current quartet", said Mintel from his home in Morrisville, PA.
Beside the quartet's performances at jazz festivals and cultural centers, Eric has also crossed over into new territories for jazz. Eric is collaborating with symphony orchestras in a performance of his original jazz/classical composition titled "Millennium Suite" and he is also working with various choral groups and church choirs performing original choral music and infusing it with jazz. "We'll have our fourth performance of Millennium Suite in May of this year and we just finished up our fourth performance of our choral/jazz concept "A Concert For Hope" which is a major success. We also just completed our second annual tour through the South. The audience's there didn't want us to leave. They are a great jazz audience and have a real appreciation for jazz and the traveling musician. I'm already booking dates now for March 2003. We also had one of the greatest concerts at Messiah College in Grantham, PA(just outside Harrisburg)in February. The audience reaction to the music was incredible, their cheers propelled us into more and more musical tangents",said Mintel.
