Just A Kiss

The newly released music video for the sultry Latin number “Just A Kiss” written by Perth jazz singer Nicola Milan is a hypnotic mix of smooth Bossa rhythms blended with an emotive visual set awash in candlelight. The poignant playfulness of this clip surrounds the story line of a girl’s daydream fantasy about a timeless moment spent with a mysterious man plucked from her imagination.

The newly released Rae Ann Perez CD "Midnight In Paris" has hit the scene. A fresh take, it showcases Rae Ann Perez abilities as a fluent songwriter, pianist and vocalist. The eight originals and four expertly arranged favorites are " world jazz" music with touches of classic standards, funk, and highly influenced Latin sounds and grooves.

Only a couple of months after releasing her critically-acclaimed Embraceable CD, song stylist Nicole Henry keeps the momentum rolling with a joyous jazz collection of holiday-themed classics that were recorded live at the Cotton Club in Tokyo. Set For The Season: Live In Japan, produced by Henry and Grammy nominee Matt Pierson (Kirk Whalum, Jane Monheit, Joshua Redman), will be released October 25th on Henry’s Banister Records.

Is there time to explore and reflect on musical beauty in the frenetic pace of modern life? It’s a question vocalist Anne Walsh asks on her latest CD “Go,” which was released September 27th on AtoZink Music. “The title sums up my wish to move forward as an artist, and strike out into areas of the musical art-form that I haven’t had the opportunity to explore in the past.” Walsh and husband Tom Zink created this memorable musical journey as the follow up to their previous project “Pretty World,” which earned a Grammy nomination for the arrangement of “In The Still Of The Night.”

Although she didn’t play Newport or London, multiplatinum chanteuse Basia delighted American audiences from coast to coast during a successful 20-city concert tour that concluded in Seattle last week (October 5) with a sold-out show in support of her newly released From Newport to London: Greatest Hits Live…And More album. The month-long trek that visited major U.S. cities also registered sell-outs in New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, Sacramento and San Juan Capistrano.

A contemporary jazz giant whose power and passion have made the soulful saxophonist into one of the genre’s most consistent chart-toppers in the 25 years since he released his solo debut, Richard Elliot salutes the instrumental jazz-funk legends from his formative years in the 1970s & 80s that influenced his brand of music on In The Zone, which was released today by Artistry Music (Mack Avenue Records). Elliot wrote and produced his 16th solo album with fusion pioneer Jeff Lorber.

Keyboardist Alan Hewitt will be performing with The Moody Blues on NBC's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, October 13, 2011 in support of the band’s Precious Cargo Tour throughout Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The band will be playing one of their many hits on the show.

Alan is the keyboardist for the iconic band and has a long list of credentials of his own. According to Guy Arnston from the Illinois Entertainer in a review of Hewitt’s “Retroactive” CD, “Hewitt has crafted an award-winning L.A.-based career playing for and with bands like Earth Wind and Fire, Warrant and currently The Moody Blues.”

Self-produced artist Rick Britto brings a fascinating new concept to the music audience by offering them to grasp the concept of complex musical conversations in the form of intellectual music with his CD "Conversations with Eric & I" in addition to backing that up with producing a contemporary jazz CD to show his musical versatility.

The Goa Marriott resort's chilled out lounge bar AZ UR seems to be the first off the block to usher in the new season with some world class international artistes being featured almost every Friday as guest performers with the house band Jazz Junction. The band features some of the most accomplished jazz musicians in the country, quite capable of backing any of the international jazz artistes that have now become a regular feature ever since they began playing here in July this year.

The famed Headhunters jazz/fusion/funk band (once-backing members for Herbie Hancock), are recording with singer and hip/spoken word artist, Tony Adamo in October. Rob Dixon and Gary Mielke, the co-producers of the Headhunters new CD, PLATINUM on Indianapolis based label Owl Studios, along with legendary funk drummer and Headhunters member Mike Clark, will co-produce Adamo’s new CD. Clark, who has played on two of Adamo’s previous releases, STRAIGHT UP DEAL and WHAT IS HIP? has added master percussionist and long time Headhunter member, Bill Summers to record new tracks for Adamo’s CD.

With his ensemble, Viewpoint, Stix Hooper returns to the stage in a rare appearance, Friday, October 28, 2011 at Zipper Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles. Viewpoint is a progressive instrumental based project and is one of Hooper’s many musical endeavors. With special guest, Hubert Laws, 2011 NEA Jazz Masters Award Honoree, along with others, this concert will showcase Hooper’s many eclectic and varied talents.

“Ten Freedom Summers” is a collaboration between Smith’s celebrated Golden Quartet featuring pianist/composer Anthony Davis, bassist John Lindberg and drummer Susie Ibarra, and the acclaimed Southwest Chamber Music ensemble conducted by Grammy Award-winner Jeff von der Schmidt. The musicians will record the project in the days after the premiere for release on Cuneiform in the spring of 2012. In designing the sprawling multi-movement work, Smith focused on the formative decade framed by the landmark 1954 Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education that overturned the notorious Plessy v. Ferguson decision ratifying Jim Crow segregation, and the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which outlawed many forms of racial discrimination.
