Alex and Ani to Help Continue the Legacy of the Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals Newport, RI, March 22, 2011 – For the first time in the history of the Newport Jazz Festival® and Newport Folk Festival®, one corporation will be a sponsor at both events. Rhode Island jewelry designer and manufacturer Alex and Ani will sponsor the Harbor Stage at Fort Adams State Park at the Newport Folk Festival on July 30-31 and at the Newport Jazz Festival on August 6-7, it was announced today by Newport Festivals Foundation, the recently-formed 501(c) (3) organization that produces the two events. Headquartered in Cranston, RI, with its flagship store at Newport’s Bowen’s Wharf, Alex and Ani also will create limited edition charms that will be introduced and available exclusively at the 2011 Newport Folk Festival and Newport Jazz Festival. Set for August 5-7 at the International Tennis Hall of Fame at the Newport Casino and Fort Adams State Park, the 2011 Newport Jazz Festival also announced its schedule today. Highlights include Wynton Marsalis, Michael Feinstein, Esperanza Spalding, Joshua Redman, Angélique Kidjo, Eddie Palmieri, Al Di Meola World Sinfonia, Charles Lloyd, Michel Camilo, Hiromi, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Ravi Coltrane, Randy Weston, Regina Carter, Mingus Big Band, Miguel Zenón, John Hollenbeck Large Ensemble, Buika, Steve Coleman and Five Elements, Joey DeFrancesco, Avishai Cohen with Anat Cohen, Rudresh Mahanthappa & Bunky Green, Ambrose Akinmusire, Grace Kelly with Special Guest Phil Woods, Mostly Other People Do the Killing, Brubeck Brothers, New Black Eagle Jazz Band, Berklee College of Music All Stars and other special guests to be announced.
